Expedition Overview

Spantik, also known as the Golden Peak, is celebrated as one of the most accessible and aesthetic 7,000-meter peaks in the Karakoram. Rising above the Chogo Lungma Glacier, its classic Southeast Ridge offers moderate angle snow slopes, minimal objective rockfall hazard, and spectacular views across the entire Karakoram Range, making it the perfect training expedition before tackling 8,000-meter giants.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Target Altitude: 540m Overnight: Hotel

Team briefing and equipment verification.

Flight to Skardu and transfer to Shigar Valley.

Drive through the Basha Valley to the remote village of Arandu.

Ascend the moraines of the Chogo Lungma Glacier to Spantik Base Camp.

Rotations and acclimatization along the Southeast Ridge. Establish Camp 1 (5,100m), Camp 2 (5,500m), and Camp 3 (6,300m). Summit push on Golden Peak.

Essential High-Altitude Gear

Double mountaineering boots (warm to -25ยฐC)
Climbing harness, carabiners, ascender, and descender
Technical ice axe and crampons
Heavyweight down jacket and expedition mitts

Physical Prerequisites

High. Climbers should have solid crampon technique, glacier rope-team skills, and previous mountaineering experience on 5,500m to 6,000m peaks.
