Expedition Overview

The K2 Base Camp and Concordia trek is widely acknowledged as the finest high-mountain wilderness trek on the planet. Setting off from the historic village of Askole—the birthplace of our company—the trail tracks along the mighty Braldu River and climbs directly onto the legendary Baltoro Glacier. Over 14 days on the ice, trekkers are surrounded by granite monoliths including the Trango Towers, Cathedral Peak, and Muztagh Tower, culminating at Concordia: the only spot on Earth where four 8,000-meter peaks stand in a single visual panorama.

Essential High-Altitude Gear

Our equipment standards are tested in -20°C Karakoram conditions. All climbing clients must bring:

• Four-season sleeping bag rated to -20°C
• Rigid, well-broken-in waterproof trekking boots
• Lightweight crampons or microspikes for glacial ice
• 800+ fill down jacket with hood
• Thermal base layers (merino wool recommended)
• Category 4 high-altitude UV sunglasses
• Adjustable trekking poles

Physical Prerequisites

Strenuous. Trekkers should be capable of hiking 6 to 8 hours daily over rugged moraine, boulder fields, and ice at altitudes exceeding 4,500 meters.

Permits & Regulations

CKNP (Central Karakoram National Park) and Baltistan trekking permits are fully arranged and included by Askole Expeditions.

The K2 Base Camp trek is significantly more demanding than Everest Base Camp. Unlike Nepal, where you sleep in heated teahouses, the Baltoro is an expedition-style wilderness trek where you camp entirely in tents on glacial moraine and ice for over 10 days.
